Working hard to pin down and describe the values, actions and attitudes that have come to define our company, we believe the Aker BioMarine Heartbeats accurately reflect our distinctive culture.
Extraordinary colleagues, working in a one-of-a-kind industry, for a truly unique company, our ambitions tend to throw up innumerable challenges. This demands both innovation and a considerable amount of perspiration. We like to challenge status quo and our experience is that even though it can be frustrating at times, this is how we like it. Nevertheless, to be able to work hard we need to enjoy it and feel support and receive encouraged from our colleagues, both from those who work next to you and around the world.
Achieving results and growing in a fast-paced environment from onshore to offshore, across time zones and functions requires more than productivity. In Aker BioMarine, people are our most precious asset, which means we have built a culture where we encourage, and cheer each other on. This is vital, as feeling support from your colleagues is the foundation of any well-functioning team, whatever the business. It is why one of our most important Heartbeats reflects the way that ‘we cheer each other on’. We celebrate our colleagues’ success, even if they have no direct connection to your job function.
Everyone at Aker BioMarine actively contributes to creating a positive working environment, day in and day out. It might be a pat on the back, both the symbolic and the real kind, a quick-fire email of encouragement, a flurry of smiley emojis on Workplace, or even a seat-leaving high five. Seriously, it happens, some of our Oslo HQ accounting team could be on an NBA team bench with their high-fiving skills.
It is a genuine privilege to work with such inspired and inspiring, passionate colleagues. So, with the launch of our custom-built, state of the art, krill harvesting vessel Antarctic Endurance, we thought it would be the ideal opportunity to recognize them, and the role they all play in our continued success. However, how to best show appreciation and continue to make everyone feel part of the same journey?
Well, we had an eureka moment and decided to engrave all of our employees’ names on the new vessel. The ultimate maritime equivalent of a high five. Setting sail with the support of our colleagues’ passion and expertise, it is only fitting that they become a permanent fixture on our flagship vessel, together, always cheering our crews on. Unusual? Yes. Worth it? Definitely. We wouldn’t have it any other way.
Wherever we work, whether at sea in Antarctica, or onshore in Houston, Oslo, Montevideo, or everywhere in between, we can go to work knowing that everyone are cheering for each other.
