Aker BioMarine appoints Valentina Tapia to lead its QRILL strategy in Chile

Valentina Tapia joins Aker BioMarine in Chile, serving as the company’s Sales Director for QRILL – the line of products derived from sustainably-sourced Antarctic krill. With her roots in marine biology, she has spent more than 15 years working in the Chilean aquaculture industry.

 

“With Valentina’s extensive management experience in aquaculture, including roles in sales, research and marketing, she possesses a strong strategic mindset that will benefit the growth and development of our QRILL products in Chile and Latin America,” says Simon Seward, SVP QRILL Aqua Sales. “In her new role, she will focus on positioning our QRILL ingredients sourced to the highest possible sustainability standards and deliver a new level of service to our customers in Chile and the region.”

 

From aquaculture research to leadership

 

A native of Chile, Valentina Tapia most recently served as Managing Director for the Norwegian-owned VESO Chile, an aquatic research facility. Prior to that she held the Managing Director role at AVS Chile S.A., where she and the team worked to develop scientific and technological knowledge for the aquaculture value chain. She has also spent time as a researcher in charge of fish nutrition for Fundación Chile. In this new role for Aker BioMarine, Valentina will be based in the Puerto Montt area in Chile.

 

“This new role in Aker BioMarine is really a culmination of all my aquaculture experience, bringing together my research background, sales and marketing knowledge, as well as my management experience. I am very excited to join what I see as a truly science-driven company, as research serves as a strong foundation for the development and positioning of the QRILL line,” says Tapia.

Valentina Tapia is educated as a Marine Biologist, earning her Bachelor’s degree from Universidad de Valparaiso in 1999. She has also studied in Aker BioMarine’s home base of Norway, earning a Master of Science in Aquaculture from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) in 2004. Her Master’s thesis was on the topic of ‘soybean protein in fish feeds’.
