Aker BioMarine is heading to Climate Week NYC from 20 to 27 September to join conversations on ocean protection, responsible fisheries management and the sustainable use of marine resources.
On 23 September, we will take part in two conversations focused on Antarctica, bringing our efforts to support a new marine protected area and a modern, science-based approach to managing the Antarctic krill fishery to New York.
In October, the members of CCAMLR, the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, will meet in Hobart to discuss both the marine protected area along the Antarctic Peninsula and an updated approach to managing the krill fishery. Decisions in CCAMLR are made by consensus, making dialogue and common ground ahead of the meeting especially important. Climate Week brings many of the policymakers, scientists, conservation groups and industry representatives involved in these discussions to the same city, creating an opportunity to continue those conversations before October.
On Wednesday morning, we will host our own breakfast event together with Aker QRILL Company and the UN Global Compact, bringing different perspectives around the table to discuss what it will take to build consensus in CCAMLR. Later that morning, CEO of Aker BioMarine Matts Johansen will take part in a separate roundtable asking a more fundamental question: “Why does Antarctic krill fishing exist?”
